How does virtual mediation work?

Virtual mediation is just like traditional mediation, except it occurs online as a video call/conference instead of in person at an office or courthouse. This allows you to attend mediation from anywhere with an internet connection.

After mediation is scheduled, you will receive a link that allows you to access your online mediation session.

You will be able to see and talk to your mediator and the other party (if it’s appropriate for you to be in the same video conference).

Virtual “breakout rooms” are used so you do not have to mediate directly with the other party. Parties can choose to stay in their private “breakout room” for the entire mediation session, with the mediator going back and forth between rooms to speak with both parties privately. Your mediator will discuss this option with you prior to mediation.

  • “Breakout rooms” can also be used at any time for parties to take a break from mediating together or to speak privately with their attorney or the mediator.
  • Mediating by phone is the backup method we use during mediations (since technical difficulties can arise during video conferencing).

VirtualMediation.co uses Zoom for our virtual mediations. Zoom is a free application that can be downloaded to your computer, tablet, or mobile device. Please contact us if you would like more information about mediating via Zoom or virtual mediation.
