What is Mediation?

A group of people untangling a tangled mess of lines

The court process can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate, but mediation can remove the uncertainty of going to court and allow you to have control over the outcome of your case.

During mediation, an impartial mediator works with both parties to help them openly discuss the issues in their case and brainstorm possible solutions. The mediator’s goal is to assist the parties with creating their own solutions to meet their unique needs. A mediator is neutral, and does not make any judgments or decisions about your case.

Mediation is a voluntary process. Agreements have to work for both parties in a case, but mediation does not have to be a negotiation where each side “gives something up.” It can also be a collaborative process with the goal of finding mutually-beneficial outcomes that meet the needs and goals of both parties.

An experienced mediator can help parties effectively evaluate solutions that will work for their specific situation. Rather than approaching mediation in terms of winning or losing, it’s possible to seek creative solutions that will help both parties meet their goals.

The format and focus of every mediation can be tailored based on the needs of each case. Please contact us if you have any other questions about mediation.
